The Central Reserve Police Force ( CRPF) is the largest Indian Central Armed Police Force. It functions under the authority that is the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. The CRPF's principal function is in aiding the States and Union Territories in their police work to keep law and order and counter insurgency. It came into existence under the name of the Crown Representative's Police on 27 July 1939. After Indian Independence, it was renamed its own Central Reserve Police Force on the enactment of CRPF Act on 28 December 1949.
